The Peel ARC Proposal

Next Steps:
Board staff will review and analyze the recommendation completed by the ARC and prepare their own proposals and recommendation.
- March 3, 2009. Presentation to the Physical Planning and Building (PP&B) Committee of the ARC recommendation and the separate proposal and recommendation of Board staff. The recommendations may be debated at this time.
- The ARC is to be dissolved at this stage.
- March 24, 2009. The reports will go to a meeting of the Board where the recommendations will be debated, accepted, defeated, adjusted or changed. The Trustees will make a final decision regarding the future of the schools.
If the Peel DSB resolves to close Byngmount Beach, Lyndwood and Neil C Matheson, and build a new school at the Hartsdale Avenue (Lyndwood) site, the Board must outline clear timelines around when the schools will close.
Delegations:
- The public may delegate at the meeting where the reports are being presented to PP&B. (March 3, 2009)
- The Peel Board of Trustees will not accept delegations on this matter until the ARC and staff have made their presentations to PP&B. The public may delegate at the meeting of the Board where the reports will be debated and a decision made. (March 24, 2009)

Implementation Process of Peel DSB Policy #45
If the recommendation passed involves the closure of a school, the following procedure will apply:
- The Superintendent of Education (Penny Gingell) will notify in writing, the staff and the parents of the students in the schools to be closed that the Board has passed the specific resolution to close the school.
- The Superintendent of Education (Penny Gingell) and the Controller, Planning and Accommodation Support Services (Randy Wright) will arrange and attend a public meeting of the parents of the students in the schools to be closed for the purpose of providing the rationale on which the Peel District School Board arrived at the decision to close the schools. One of the local trustees will be Chair for this public presentation.
- The Superintendent of Education in collaboration with the Principals of the affected schools will liaise with the local Trustee and the School Council Chair to form an Advisory Committee. Planning staff will act as a resource to the Advisory Committee.
- The Advisory Committee will be formed for the purpose of implementing the Board decision on school closure.
- The Superintendent of Education, in co-operation with the Chair of the Advisory Committee, will present to the Physical Planning and Building Committee, a series of recommendations originating from the Advisory Committee deliberations related to the accommodation/transportation plan for students being assigned to a new school or to new schools.
